Organizers in Audubon County are kicking off the fundraising season for 2019 Relay for Life tomorrow (Thursday) evening. Co-chairs for this year’s event are Kelley Christensen and Anna Elmquist, and they are excited to get fundraising underway with a rally at Danish Countryside Wines and Vines near Exira. According to Elmquist, the program begins at 6 p.m. and they have a long list of reasons for people to be there.
The chief goal of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life is to raise money to support research, patients and their families. Elmquist says it also serves to bring together people who have experienced the pain of losing a loved one or cared for somebody going through treatment. Cancer has impacted almost everyone in some way, including Elmquist, and she says that is why she participates.
She adds every success story should serve as motivation for people who have not participated in the past to put together a team. Elmquist says teams can sign up online or can do so at Thursday’s rally.

The theme for this year’s relay is based on the rhymes from Dr. Seuss, “No one likes cancer, here or there, no one likes it anywhere.” The relay itself is scheduled for Friday, June 7 in the Agri-Hall at the Audubon County Fairgrounds.
