Audubon County Fair Makes Some Schedule Changes As Organizers Prepare For Heat Wave This Week

The 2019 Audubon County Fair begins in earnest tomorrow (Wednesday), and exhibitors and attendees are being cautioned to prepare for high temperatures throughout the fair. An excessive heat watch in in effect for the entire state of Iowa with heat index values expected to reach up to 110o through Saturday evening. Fair President, Greg Jensen, says they have already made several changes to Wednesday’s schedule in response to the weather.

Those are the only adjustments made so far, but Jensen would not be surprised to see other events moved to account for the heat. Livestock and exhibit judging makes up a large portion of the schedule, but Jensen says they also placed an emphasis on family entertainment during the fair’s planning process. Mutton Bustin’ starts at 6:30 p.m. at the fairground on Thursday evening, followed by a miniature rodeo at the horse area at 7:30 p.m., and the figure eight races are on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.. Jensen says the fun will continue into the weekend.

According to Jensen, the fair is one of the highlights of the summer for Audubon County residents, and it requires a lot of effort to get everything ready each year. He credits the fair board and the nearly 100 volunteers who donate their time to make it possible.

Jensen encourages everybody planning a visit to the Audubon County fair to keep an eye on the fair’s website and Facebook page to receive updates regarding schedule changes. Links to those and a full fair schedule can be found included with this story on our website.
