Audubon City Council Approves First Reading Of Community-wide Revitalization Area

The Audubon City Council has passed the first reading of a resolution designed to spur growth which designates nearly the whole community as a revitalization area. According to City Clerk, Joe Foran, the measure was approved with broad support from the council, property owners and businesses. Foran explains how the revitalization effort will function once implemented.

It will still be several months before they can get the area formally established. Foran says measures such as this require time for public input and need multiple readings.

Audubon, like many communities in Iowa, is facing issues with low unemployment and a shrinking population. The unemployment rate for Audubon County in March was only 2.9 percent. Foran says city officials are hopeful that these tax incentives will draw people and businesses to town.

The city council has used incentives like this in the past to encourage growth in the past with some success. Questions regarding the proposed Audubon Revitalization Area can be directed to city hall at 712- 563-3269.
