Audubon Authorities Warn Of Another Social Security Scam

The Carroll Police Department has warned of a new scam in which emails are hacked and then used to request direct deposit changes with employers. Audubon authorities are also putting out a scam alert, this one in which a caller claims to be a representative with the Social Security Administration. In an effort to get the social security number and/or money from the victim, the caller says their number has been linked to a crime, and that it is currently locked. For a fee, the scammer says they will be able to reactivate the number. Everyone is reminded to never give out personal information over the phone or even through email messages. The Social Security Administration will never ask for your number in these manners.
