Attempted Murder Suspect Apprehended Near Churdan Thursday Afternoon

An 18-year-old Churdan man, wanted for attempted murder, was located and apprehended at a rural residence northeast of Churdan on Thursday afternoon. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol found and arrested Randy Halterman at approximately 3:47 p.m. without incident at 1028 130th Street. According to the Greene County Assessor’s Office, the home is owned and occupied by Randy W. Roper. Halterman was booked into the Greene County jail on the Story County arrest warrant. He is accused of shooting 19-year-old Ieisha Jabbar of Ames in the chest on Saturday, Jan. 12 at a location in Ames. He was able to elude authorities since the incident, in which it is believed Halterman was shooting at someone other than Jabbar.
