The last day of classes at our area schools is fast approaching, many taking place yet this week. However, there are some children who have been receiving free and reduced-price meals at school that will lose that access during the break. “Just as learning does not end when school lets out, neither does a child’s need for good nutrition.” This is why the Summer Food Service Program was started, as a means to continue to provide access to nutritious meals throughout the break. Audubon Community Schools will once again be participating, and will serve lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Audubon Elementary School from June 10 through Aug. 9. Meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Other sites throughout the area include: South Central Calhoun High School in Lake City; the Arcadia Shelter House and Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia; Carroll Community Estates, Fairview Village Apartments, Meadow Wood, Kuemper High School and Adams Elementary School, all in Carroll; CRB Elementary in Coon Rapids; United Church of Westside and the junior/senior high school in Westside; Denison Elementary; the Schleswig Middle School; the Grand Junction Community Center; Greene County Elementary School in Jefferson; Paton-Churdan Junior-Senior High School in Churdan; Guthrie Center Elementary; the Sac Community Center in Sac City; Ridge View Middle School in Early; and Schaller-Crestland Middle and Elementary School in Schaller.
