Ambulance Replacement Options Will Be Brought Back To Monday Carroll Supervisor Meeting

Discussions on whether to purchase a new or demo model ambulance for Carroll County Ambulance Services will be brought back at Monday’s Board of Supervisor meeting. Director, Darrell Baker, had informed the board that remounting an existing body onto a new chassis was not looking to be a viable option at an estimated $159,000.

He did present information that shows minimal cost differences between new and demo diesel units. However, there is a bigger disparity in the heights.

This vehicle comes in at a cost of $189,000 prior to being fitted with a power cart and graphics, which would bring the cost up to around $210,000. They would then need to add more than $38,000 for a heart monitor. Baker says all the bids they received are basically just the ambulances. There is a chance they can get a deal on a new, unused one, but it has some years on it, which made a few of the supervisors uncomfortable. Baker says the 2016 model was apparently built for another service who later backed out of the deal. Baker really doesn’t have a recommendation for the board, but they do have the potential to receive at least $12,000 more by trading in their current ambulance versus a remount.

Monday’s meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the board room at the Carroll County Courthouse. The public is encouraged to attend. A copy of the full agenda can be found below.
