After Being Considered As A Finalist Several Times, Carroll Attorney, Christopher Polking, Appointed As A District Judge

On Friday, June 28, Christopher Polking, an attorney from Carroll, was notified by Gov. Kim Reynolds he had been selected to become a district judge. Polking, who has practiced law in town since 2001, says he has been hoping to receive a call like the one he got last week for nearly a decade.

Polking grew up in Carroll, leaving for Massachusetts to earn his undergraduate degree from Tufts University. He then went on to receive his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School. Polking’s appointment is effective immediately, but he will not begin his work as a judge until the end of July. He says the next few weeks will be a flurry of activity as he prepares for his new role in the legal system.

Polking is no stranger to wearing judicial robes. He served as a Carroll County magistrate for nine and a half years, and he says that is when he decided that he wanted to become a judge.

Each judge has the option of choosing where their offices will be located, and Polking indicated he will select the Carroll County Courthouse. A date for his investiture has not been set, but he predicts it will likely be sometime in August. Polking’s appointment comes only a few months after the judicial appointment of another Carroll attorney, Gina Badding, in April. Judicial District 2B, in which both Badding and Polking will serve, covers 13 counties, including: Calhoun, Carroll, Greene and Sac Counties.
