Local authorities are warning residents that the heavy snow may be covering the exhaust pipes for their heating system, which could result in carbon monoxide back-flowing into the residence. Most of these pipes are located closer to the ground and can easily be covered. Some systems are designed to shut down when a blockage is sensed, but there is a chance that many may continue to operate. Everyone is being asked to check their exhaust pipe and to clear it immediately if blockage is found.
