A Carroll Man Exhibiting Strange Behavior Is Arrested In Jefferson Early Friday Morning

A Carroll man was taken into custody by Jefferson authorities early Friday morning. The incident began when a cell phone call came in at approximately 2:49 a.m. to the Greene County dispatcher, but the caller was making no sense. He said that people were after him and they needed to send an ambulance to a Carroll residence. He even told dispatch that he had broken into the Wells Fargo Bank in Jefferson and needed officers to come get him there because people were after him. As an officer with the Jefferson Police Department and a deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office were searching for him, 27-year-old Roderick Alan Klampe II advised he was running toward the Greene County Courthouse. Authorities located him by the Bell Tower, at which time Klampe claimed to have a firearm under his arm. An investigation revealed Klampe had broken into the rear door of Tech Zone because he believed his cell phone was bugged and wanted to use a land line. Klampe was charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony, carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of a weapon while intoxicated and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both serious misdemeanors.
