2019 Fall Affair At Rueters Is The Must Attend Fundraiser Of The Year

For 39 years, a local organization has been supporting disabled residents in 23 counties and providing a hand up to residents in our immediate area. The Family Resource Center (FRC) has been quietly going about living up to their mission: “To strengthen families and the community by keeping children and dependent adults safe and nurtured, thereby preventing abuse and neglect.” Executive Director, Tim Nichols, says they offer a variety of types of assistance.

They also have what is called the Client Closet, where people can get some of the basic necessities, such as diapers, shampoo, soap and more. Nichols says people may be surprised to learn these services are offered to everyone, and many seeking out assistance are not considered indigent.

They have held a major fundraiser every year for the past 14 years to support their services. Board member and event co-chair, Anne Collison, says the Fall Affair takes place on the first Thursday of November.

The come-and-go event features music by All Strings Attached, hors d’ oeuvres and desserts donated by HyVee and a cash bar from HyVee Wine and Spirits. However, the fundraising and giving opportunities don’t end with the purchase of a ticket. The annual tradition includes a Christmas tree, giving attendees the chance to adopt a family and live and silent auctions. Nichols and Collison say there is an extensive list of fabulous items and they are excitedly awaiting another donation from a famous Carroll native, Coach Nurse.

Tickets are $40 per person and available at the door for the 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. event. They can be purchased in advance at the Family Resource Center, HyVee, Mrs. Glynn and Co. or from any board member. Donations can also be made at the office at 502 West 7th Street.
