This past July, there were a reported 4 billion robocalls made, up 2.6 billion from just one year ago. The most common calls are reported as scams involving interest rates, travel, insurance and vehicle warranties. Iowa Attorney General, Tom Miller, says these are the “bane of our existence,” but Iowans do have the tools they need to keep the calls at bay. It is recommended that consumers ignore calls from unknown numbers and let them go to voicemail, which can be difficult for a business and many numbers are spoofed and appear to come from a known or local number. Although there is no way to stop all of these calls, you can just hang up, contact the phone company about robocall blocking services, download call-blocking apps such as YouMail, RoboKiller and Nomorobo, register you phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry, file a complaint or contact your lawmakers. More details on how to get on the Do Not Call Registry and to file a complaint can be found included below.
