The 36-room Blue Grass Inn and Suites, and the gas and convenience store, two of the pieces of the 16-acre estimated $18 million Waspy’s Truck Stop complex south of Audubon officially opened at 5 a.m. on Monday morning. The hotel features an indoor pool, a fitness center, public areas and a coffee room and The Feed Mill Restaurant, which is slated to open at 8 a.m. on Sept. 4. The Handlos family, Lawrence and Doris and their children, Brian and Beth, will also be inviting the public to a ribbon cutting ceremony for the complex at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11. It is estimated the new truck stop will employ up to 70 individuals once the Waspy’s Truck Service Center opens later this fall. The new location boasts grab and go kitchen specials, a spirits’ den and cigar humidor, grocery products, a variety of fuel options, a certified scale with a capacity up to five axles, a car wash and RV station as well as a trucker lounge with showers and a laundry facility.
