Vehicular Homicide Trial For Carroll Man Scheduled For March 5

A Carroll man accused of causing an accident last summer that killed a Carroll woman will go to trial on homicide charges later this year. After filing not guilty pleas to homicide by vehicle, operating under the influence, a class B felony, and homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, a class C felony, 18-year-old Kizer James Brockman was ordered to appear March. 5 in District Court for Carroll County. The charges against Brockman stem from a June 30, 2017 accident that occurred about three miles northwest of Carroll. An investigation by the Iowa State Patrol concluded Brockman was under the influence of THC, the active chemical in marijuana, and was traveling up to 72 miles per hour when he ran a posted stop sign and collided with an SUV driven by Debra Renee Kock. Kock was pronounced dead at the scene. If found guilty of both charges, Brockman faces a maximum sentence of 35 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
