Twelve Area Students Selected For All-State Music Honors

A dozen area students were selected to perform at the Iowa High School Music Association (IHSMA) All-State Music Festival in Ames last week. Only the most talented musicians in band, chorus or orchestra are selected for this highly-competitive honor. Two local students were selected to perform in the orchestra category: Paul Ching from Kuemper High School, playing the violin; and Alexandra Klein from Carroll High School on viola. Six vocalists were chosen for all-state chorus: Theresa Borkowski from Kuemper; Grace McCarten, Laura Sweeney, Zach Shook and Will Meiners from CHS; and Joseph Wozniak from South Central Calhoun. Audubon and Ar-We-Va both sent two students to the Band All-State Music Festival. Bridget Cameron for bassoon and Maris Cameron for clarinet from Ar-We-Va and Grace Christensen for alto sax and Anna Campbell for French horn from Audubon. The festival was held from Nov. 15 to Nov. 17 and portions of the event will be broadcast on Iowa Public Television starting at 7:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
