Formal charges have been filed in District Court for Carroll County against two Carroll residents, who are accused of using a stolen debit card to purchase items from two different businesses. According to court records, 23-year-old Jori Amber McConnell and 23-year-old Tyler John Thielsen both face two counts of credit card fraud, an aggravated misdemeanor. The charges stem from incidents on Oct. 19. McConnell is accused of taking the victim’s card from a third party, and then she and Thielsen allegedly used it to purchase more than $300 in items from the Carroll Walmart and Drees Oil Company. The pair initially denied using the card, but McConnell later admitted to authorities that she had taken it. Thielsen claims he was not aware the card was stolen at the time of the purchases. Both individuals entered not guilty pleas to the charges, and their jury trials are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If found guilty on all counts, they face a maximum penalty of four years in prison and $12,500 in fines.
