Trial Date Scheduled For Papillion, Neb. Man Accused Of Felony Theft

A Papillion, Neb. man accused of stealing nearly $1,400 from a Carroll Store has entered a not guilty plea to the charge, and a court date has been scheduled for later this summer. Thirty-four-year-old Shawn Michael Jones’ jury trial is slated to begin on Tuesday, July 10 at the Carroll County Courthouse. Jones faces one count of second-degree theft, a class D felony. The charge stems from incidents on Dec. 15 and 22 in which he replaced bar codes with codes from less expensive items and took approximately $1,200 in goods from the store without paying. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Thursday, June 14 to determine if the case will be resolved by plea agreement, dismissed or will be tried before a jury. If found guilty of the charge, Jones could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
