Time To Think About Ordering Trees

It is time to start ordering trees for fall plantings, and two different organizations are offering special opportunities to save money. Residential customers of Alliant Energy can participate in the Operation ReLeaf program, purchasing landscaping trees for their homes at deep discounts. Customers can reserve up to two trees per address for just $25 each, then pick them up at Operation ReLeaf events in Cerro Gordo, Decatur, Hamilton, Linn, Poweshiek and Winneshiek Counties in October. The trees, sold on a first-come, first-served basis, would retail at between $65 to $125 each, so a little drive may be worth the savings. Closer to home, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources State Forest Nursery started accepting orders at the beginning of this month, so now is the perfect time to check out their online site that features dozens of native Iowa trees, including hardwoods, evergreens and smaller trees and shrubs. With the DNR nursery, orders can be placed for fall or spring delivery and can be done online from now until May 31. To learn more about this program, simply follow the link included here.
