Three Vehicles Involved In Accident Near Mt. Carmel Friday Evening

Three vehicles were involved in an accident Friday evening just south of Mt. Carmel on Highway 71. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at the intersection with 150th Street at approximately 6:10 p.m. The investigation revealed that a 2017 Ford F-150, driven by 37-year-old Billy Joe Armstrong of Manning, was southbound on 71, but slowed down abruptly to turn east onto 150th Street. A 2004 Dodge Stratus, being driven by 21-year-old Callie Anna Baack of Carroll, was behind the Armstrong vehicle, but was not able to slow down quickly enough and swerved to try to avoid a collision. The Baack vehicle ended up striking the driver’s side of the Armstrong truck with the front passenger side of the Stratus. Baack then swerved back into the proper lane, but there was a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado K2500, driven by 19-year-old Parker Joseph Slagle of Eagle Grove, in that southbound lane as well. Slagle was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the Baack car, which then came to rest in the west ditch. Baack complained of possible injuries, but was not transported for treatment. Neither Armstrong nor Slagle reported any injuries. There was an estimated $800 in damages to both the Armstrong and Slagle trucks and $5,000 in damages to the Baack vehicle.
