Three different stands have been cited for selling fireworks to persons under the age of 18. Carroll Chief of Police, Brad Burke, reports that compliance checks were conducted on Monday, July 2, and the three businesses were found to be in violation of Iowa State Code 727. Forty-three-year-old Jody Seil of Lake City sold firecrackers from the Bellino Firework’s tent on Monterey Drive to a minor working with the police department, as did 44-year-old Charity Hall of Pittsburg, Kan., who was working at Jake’s Fireworks on Kittyhawk Avenue. The final citation was issued to 19-year-old Selena Daniel of Coon Rapids, who reportedly sold fountain-style fireworks and rocket fountains at the Dollar General Store on East Plaza Drive. The sale of fireworks to a minor is a simple misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of at least $250.
