Three Arrested On Forgery Charges In Storm Lake, More Arrests May Be Coming

Storm Lake authorities have arrested several individuals who are allegedly involved in a string of forgeries. On Monday, April 30, the Storm Lake Police Department was notified by Central Bank that thousands of dollars in four counterfeit checks were cashed at their location. The suspect presented checks that were purportedly issued by Liberty Food Services, Inc. and the person presenting them had valid identification. Police conducted an investigation and identified the vehicle the suspect got into after cashing the checks as a white Dodge Durango, registered to 20-year-old Brionna Sankey of Fort Dodge. On Tuesday, May 1, around noon, the department was notified by bank staff that the suspect was attempting to cash another counterfeit check. Upon arrival, police arrested 20-year-old Craig Hail, Jr. of Fort Dodge inside the bank. Two other suspects were observed in a nearby parking lot in the Durango. As police responded to the scene, the vehicle tried to flee, but was stopped by police just a few blocks away. Sankey and 34-year-old Eldominic Rhodes of Storm Lake were both also taken into custody. The suspects were transported to the Buena Vista County jail, where it was learned Hail was wanted on a Webster County warrant for probation violations relating to burglary. All three have been charged with five counts of forgery, class D felonies, and one count of ongoing criminal conduct, class B felonies. Sankey and Rhodes were booked on $50,000 bonds each and Hail was booked on a $55,000 bond. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and other forgery suspects are being sought.
