They Might Be Out Of Sight, But Crews Are Still Working Below Grade On Highway 30 Expansion Project

To the many people who travel back and forth on Highway 30, there doesn’t appear to be much action at the construction site near Grant Road. But city officials say most of what has been happening in recent weeks is going on below road—and eye—level. Crews have been making progress on the southeast side of the intersection with the bridge extension. The floor and walls are all up and the ceiling structure of the bridge is ready to be poured. As of one week ago, the contractor had 66-working days into the 118-working day contract. This means that they are still on track to be done in the initially estimated timeframe of, at the earliest, sometime in October. The project could likely extend into November. Working-day contracts do not include weekends, holidays or rain days.
