The 2018 American Legion Legacy Run Makes Stop In Audubon And Passes Through Carroll Monday

About 400 riders faced rainy conditions as they made their way through Audubon and Carroll today (Monday) as part of the 13th Annual American Legion Legacy Run. The American Legion Riders, a motorcycle association made up of more than 120,000 veterans, started Sunday morning in Hutchinson, Kan. and traveled nearly 230 miles to stop overnight in Independence, Mo. They mounted up again Monday morning to begin the more than 300-mile trip to Spencer, making a stop in Audubon along the way. Chairman of the American Legion Riders National Advisory Committee and lead rider, Bob Sussan, says the Legacy Run was created to support children who lost a parent on active duty.

The needs-based American Legion Legacy Scholarship provides up to $20,000 per student per year for up to six years. Since the program was started in 2002, more than $13 million has been raised. Sussan says the Legacy Run and its riders are responsible for raising every dollar.

According to Sussan, this is only one way the more than 2.1 million American Legion members can show their support for the families of their fellow servicemembers. He adds that a little bit of rain was not going to stand in their way.

After stopping in Audubon to grab some coffee and refuel, the riders continued north on Highway 71 to pass through Carroll and on to their overnight stop in Spencer. By the time they reach their final destination in Anoka, Minn. on Thursday, the American Legion Riders will have traveled approximately 1,100 miles through Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The 2018 American Legion Legacy Run is expected to raise more than $1.5 million. You can track the American Legion Riders by following the link included below this story.
