Tax Levies From CCSD Projected To Drop In FY 2019

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education voted earlier this week to move forward with publishing their Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 budget. The district estimates they will bring in about $27 million next year, and expenditures, at their highest, should not exceed $29.5 million. Superintendent, Rob Cordes, says the good news for taxpayers is the total levy is projected to drop about 5.5 percent.

Due to a roughly seven percent increase in county valuations, it is possible property owners could end up paying more despite the levy dropping. Looking into the future, Cordes does not expect to see significant shifts up or down in the tax rate.

The proposed budget does show a shortfall of $2.5 million. Districts will often overestimate expenses in order to receive as much spending authority from the state as possible. Cordes also says they are not able to levy for cash reserves since they ended last fiscal year with about $1.6 million more in the General Fund than expected.

The board has scheduled a public hearing on the proposed budget for Wednesday, April 4. The meeting begins at 3:45 p.m. in the Adams Elementary School boardroom. Following the hearing, the board will go into closed session to screen activity director candidates. A copy of the proposed budget can be found included below.
