Taser Deployed In Pursuit Of Suspect Who Stole $25-Worth Of Merchandise From WalMart Store

A Sioux Rapids man was Tased while trying to elude authorities in a theft of merchandise, valued at only $25. The Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the WalMart store at approximately 6:07 p.m. on Friday evening when workers watched a man cut open a box, remove electronic merchandise and then walk out of the store. Staff attempted to stop the suspect, 49-year-old Harold Anderson, but he fled on foot. Officer located Anderson at the intersection of the Salebarn Road and County Road C49, at which time a foot pursuit ensued. One of the officers deployed his Taser during the chase, bringing Anderson to the ground, where a struggle occurred. Anderson was eventually subdued and taken into custody. He was transported to the Buena Vista County Medical Center for treatment, then released and transferred to the Buena Vista County jail. He was booked and held on a $600 bond for fifth-degree theft and interference with official acts, both simple misdemeanors.
