It was no Halloween prank when shoppers at the Storm Lake Walmart contacted authorities about a chain-saw wielding man in the parking lot. The Storm Lake Police Department reports they responded to the store at approximately 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Witnesses told the officers that 52-year-old Dean Kohler of Cherokee was inside the Walmart acting strangely, yelling and making animal noises, before exiting the building. He then went to his vehicle and retrieved a chainsaw, began waving it over his head in a threatening manner and yelling. Police located the chainsaw in his vehicle. Kohler was taken into custody and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor. No injuries were reported.
