Special Olympic Athletes Get Tips From Division II Players This Week In Sioux City

It’s time again for Special Olympic athletes from around northwest Iowa and adjoining states to come together to learn directly from the top Division II women’s basketball players from around the country. On Tuesday, March 6, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Special Olympics Clinic will take place at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City, in conjunction with the NAIA Women’s Division II College Basketball Championship. This is the 17th year that the Sioux City Diocese has sponsored the clinic, and the Most Reverend R. Walker Nickless, Bishop of the Diocese, will attend the first session and lead the athletes in prayer. Nickless says they are proud to be involved in this event. “This is such a joyful experience for everyone involved,” he says. “To witness the NAIA players sharing their time and talent with these very special people is such a blessing.” The clinic will take place one day only, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
