MidAmerican Energy is reporting that scams against its customers are showing no signs of slowing after receiving another spike in complaints. The company says these scammers pretend to represent the utility and can be persistent and aggressive in their efforts to get victims to pay. These impostors often spoof caller-ID to make it appear as if the call is coming directly from MidAmerican. They threaten to shut off power to the home or business unless an immediate payment is made over the phone with a prepaid debit card. MidAmerican does not demand money over the phone and will not accept this payment method. They advise customers who receive a suspicious call to hang up and report the incident to law enforcement.
