The City of Sac City has announced they will be smoke testing sanitary sewer mains through mid-August in order to check the system’s integrity. JEO Consulting Group of Ankeny was contracted to oversee the testing and has scheduled work to take place from Monday, Aug. 6 to Friday, Aug. 17. Administrator, Jamie Lawrence, says performing these tests sooner rather than later could prevent potential damage to structures in town.
Nearly all of the mains to the west of 9th Street are slated for testing this year. Contractors will isolate the mains and then fill them with a white, non-toxic smoke that will help them located any compromised areas. It is possible the smoke could enter homes or businesses and cause irritation to the respiratory system. Lawrence says there are a few simple steps residents can take to minimize the chance of that occurring.
Prior to work beginning, contractors will attach a bulletin to the front door of buildings in the testing area. After that posting, residents can expect testing to begin within the next seven days. Individuals with questions about the testing can contact Lawrence of Curt Kampman with JEO Consulting at the contact points included with this story on our website.
