Sac City Residents Could See Water Rate Increases In Early 2019

Residents of Sac City could be seeing an increase to their water bills by as early as next January. According to Administrator, Jamie Lawrence, rates in the community have remained unchanged for years and it is time officials consider adjusting them. Lawrence says Water Superintendent, Jim Johnston, addressed the council at a meeting last week to bring the topic up for discussion.

The city has already started looking at what possible rate increases could be implemented. Lawrence says they are working to compile data to determine what changes are actually needed.

Lawrence says the city council will make the final decision on whether or not an increase is needed, and if so, how much. He predicts they will likely implement a scheduled rate increase over several years.

If the city council does approve the rate changes, Lawrence indicates the ordinance would likely be made in official in January or February. The increase would then appear on customers’ bills the following month.
