Sac City Officials Look To Implement Tighter Regulations On Alcohol Consumption On Public Property

Officials in Sac City are exploring a policy change that would put tighter regulations on alcohol consumption on public property. The city council started reviewing the community’s existing rule at a meeting Tuesday night, and Sac City Administrator, Jamie Lawrence, says what they have on the book now is too lenient.

The proposal would also prohibit hard liquors from public grounds. The new policy, if approved, would still allow certain alcohols on public property from 8 a.m. to midnight. Lawrence says he does not recall any serious issues with the current situation but has received a lot of inquires with the construction of a new shelter house in South Park.

That increased interest will likely result in more events taking place in the park. Lawrence says expanding the policy would also provide some liability protection.

The council did not take any formal action on the policy Tuesday night. They referred the issue to the Parks and Recreation board for further review and will address the issue again at a future meeting.
