Sac City officials are considering an update to their ordinances to that would allow ATVs, UTVs and snowmobiles on the city streets. According to Administrator, Jamie Lawrence, nearly all of the towns in the county allow this class of vehicle, and the council wanted to be more in line with the other communities.
Sac City already has some ordinances on the books that pertain to off-road vehicles, but they were split into separate sections. Lawrence says it makes sense to rewrite them and put them all together.
It takes three readings to approve an ordinance and they would still need to publish it before going into effect. Lawrence says they are making headway on getting it passed, but they still have the opportunity to make changes.
Their next regularly scheduled meeting would fall on Christmas Day, so the earliest the council could discuss the ordinance again would be Tuesday, Jan. 8. That meeting is slated to begin at 5 p.m. at the Sac City Municipal Building
