Sac City Conservationist Honored During Bald Eagle Release

A Sac City man was honored for his dedication to conservation efforts by being chosen to release a rehabilitated eagle. Organizers surprised Bill Brenny, a former Sac County Conservation Board member and avid conservationist, during a presentation at Swan Lake on Saturday. Brenny says he was humbled and awed by the opportunity.

Brenny served on the county conservation board for 18 years and maintains over 400 acres of land designated to wildlife. He became interested in conservation after noticing how little habitat remained for Iowa’s native species. The eagle he released, Farley, finished her rehabilitation at Saving Our Avian Resources (SOAR) near Dedham. Executive Director, Kay Neumann, says most eagles they treat suffer from lead poisoning but not in this case.

SOAR provides care for more than 300 birds every year. Birds that are healthy, but cannot be released back into the wild become permanent residents and are used in educational programs. Learn more about SOAR by following the link included with this story on our website.
