Thirty-year-old Halbur native, Ashten Wittrock, announced in January of this year that she was interested in pursuing the Carroll County Recorder seat. Wednesday was the filing deadline for the county elections, and Wittrock made her bid official by submitting her papers that morning. Wittrock is registered as a Republican and says that she has been considering a run for the office for several years, but wanted to make sure the timing was right for her personally and for the office itself. She believes that her value base will be an asset in the position.
Wittrock has been with the Carroll County Auditor’s Office since 2014 and has worked her way up from finance and elections to the position of Real Estate Deputy. Her background, she says, makes her a highly-qualified candidate.
She has also taken part in additional training for working with surveys. As she gets her campaign underway, Wittrock says she is relying on strong family and community ties. Brandon Vonnahme, a former Carroll City Council member, is acting as her campaign treasurer. Her parents, Nick and Donna Wittrock and the grandparents of her son, nine-month-old Easten, Kenny and Nancy Snyder, are all staunch supporters. Those people who already know Wittrock have given her a lot of positive feedback on her bid for the seat. And for those that may not know too much about her, she wants them to start their relationship by understanding what her campaign slogan means.
Wittrock attended Holy Trinity Schools in Halbur and Templeton and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 2005. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Buena Vista University in 2009. She also has a daughter, Brianna, who is 11. Plans are in the works for Wittrock to travel the district visiting with constituents and to host some meet-and-greet events.
