Regional Unemployment Continues To Decline In Iowa’s Western Counties

According to a report released Tuesday, unemployment rates in almost all 99 Iowa counties are continuing to decline. For September, the state’s unemployment rate remained stable at 2.5 percent, but the counties in west-central Iowa made small improvements in their rates compared, to August. Audubon, Crawford, Greene and Sac Counties all saw the largest decrease of 0.3 percent, with 1.9, 1.7, 2.5 and 1.7 percent unemployment, respectively. Carroll County had unemployment dip 0.2 percent to 1.7 percent, tied with Greene and Sac for the lowest rate in the region. Calhoun County also saw a 0.2 percent decrease to 2.4 percent. Guthrie County’s rate had the smallest change from 2.0 percent to 1.9 percent. Iowa’s highest unemployment rate can be found in southeast Iowa’s Wapello County at four percent and the lowest at 1.2 percent in the farthest northwest counties, Lyon and Sioux.
