Refusal To Pay For Frozen Treat Leads To Theft Charges Against Carroll Woman

A Carroll woman’s refusal to pay for ice cream at a convenience store has led to theft charges against her. At approximately 5:31 p.m. on Sunday, employees at the west Casey’s on Highway 30 in Carroll reported a customer who had stolen from the gas station. According to authorities, 29-year-old Nyaduar Thoa Gatbel entered the store and filled a cone with ice cream. When told she needed to pay, Gatbel went back to the machine and filled a cup with the frozen treat. She left the store without paying and was stopped a few minutes later by the Carroll Police Department. She has been charged with fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor, and is scheduled to appear in Carroll County District Court on Thursday, April 5.
