Recognition Of Soil And Water Conservation Week Taking Place Locally And Statewide

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, is encouraging Iowans to consider ways they can help protect our soil and improve our water during Soil and Water Conservation Week. Throughout the entire week, Naig will participate in events across Iowa to highlight the importance of conservation practices placed on Iowa’s landscape and bring attention to the ongoing work by farmers, landowners and urban residents to protect the state’s soil and water resources. “Soil and Water Conservation Week is an opportunity to celebrate the progress that has been made and renew our commitment to working together to do even more to protect our state’s soil and water,” Naig says. “Iowans both on the farm and in our towns take being good stewards of the land very seriously.” Today (Tuesday), Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Julie Kenney, participated in the Farm to River Partnership at the Mark and Melissa Schleisman farm near Lake City and followed that with lunch at the Swan Lake Convention Education Center in Carroll. Wednesday, Naig will tour efforts led by the Hungry Canyons Alliance in Walnut and Macedonia to address stream channel erosion and degradation.
