Prisoner Who Attacked Another Inmate In Carroll County Jail Scheduled For Trial In February

A prisoner who assaulted another inmate at the Carroll County jail could stand trial as soon as next month. The court date for 44-year-old Darren Joseph Cox, of Carroll, is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 13. Cox is charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. On Dec. 10, 2017, Cox attacked another prisoner, Damon Derrick Shaw, causing injuries to his nose and eyes. Shaw required medical attention following the attack.  Cox was being held at the jail on charges of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a class C felony. When combined with the drug charge, Cox faces up to 13 years in prison and a maximum fine of $13,500.
