Not A Great Weekend For Parked Cars In Jefferson

The Jefferson Police Department responded to two accidents involving parked vehicles over the course of the past weekend. The first occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Saturday in the 400 block of East Harrison Street. The investigating officer found that Terence Bingley of Jefferson was backing a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado out of a private drive when he backed into a legally parked 2006 Ford Taurus. There was an estimated $500 in damage to the truck and $3,000 to the Taurus. Bingley was cited for unsafe backing upon a highway. The second incident occurred at approximately 4:02 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of East Lincoln Way. A 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Garry Devilbiss, was eastbound on the roadway when he struck a parked 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. The Tahoe sustained an estimated $1,000 in damages and the Grand Marquis $3,000. Devilbiss was cited for failure to maintain control.
