New Opportunities And Carroll Public Library Host Farewell Party For Beloved Volunteer

Pictured: New Opportunities and Library Volunteer, Mike Miller

New Opportunities and the Carroll Public Library are hosting a farewell party for a beloved foster grandparent that has touched the lives of hundreds of Carroll-area kids. Seventy-eight-year-old Mike Miller, more commonly known as “Grandpa Mike” among the children he works with, has volunteered with Carroll’s youth for more than 15 years. It recently came their attention that Miller would be relocating to Omaha, Neb. in the near future, and they wanted to recognize an individual who has meant so much to many people in the community. Youth Librarian, Diane Tracy, says Miller will leave a lasting impact on Carroll.

Head Start Director, Shari Bieret, says it was saddening to hear Miller would be leaving the area. She wants people to know just how important he has been to their program’s success.

To say thank you for his many hours of volunteer work over the years, Bieret and Tracy have put together a special farewell party for Miller.

Tracy says they know not everyone will be able to make it to the event on Wednesday, so they are asking anybody who has been impacted by Miller to send a thank you card. That address can be found included with this story on our website.
