As of the beginning of this month, anyone who is renewing their driver’s license or identification cards will notice they may look slightly different. The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has begun the implementation of new graphics and security features with each issuance that will help protect the holder’s identity. “This newly designed card allows us to stay on the leading edge of security technology to effectively prevent driver’s license fraud and identity theft,” says Melissa Spiegel, director of the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division. The cards now feature the golden dome of Iowa’s capitol building along with the state motto and layered security features. These are easily authenticated by law enforcement, the Transportation Safety Administration and other businesses that rely on these to prove identity.
