New Apartment Complex For Disabled Individuals And Seniors Breaks Ground In Wall Lake

Community members joined representatives from Region XII Council of Governments last week in breaking ground on a five-unit senior/disabled individual housing complex in Wall Lake. Summit Ridge Apartments will offer two-bedroom, one-bath, 1,000 square-foot apartments to special-needs clients, including elderly and mentally or physically disabled individuals. To qualify, applicants must have an income below 80 percent of the median for the county and be available to take occupancy in the fall of 2019. The project is expected to be let and have a bid awarded by the end of October, with construction to start soon after. The apartments received funding through a zero-interest loan from the Iowa Finance Authority, grants from the Federal Home Loan Bank and local housing trust fund, donated land from the City of Wall Lake, workforce housing tax credits through the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), equity from the Council of Governments (COG) and a low-interest loan from the COG’s housing fund.
