Nebraska Man Arrested For Kidnapping And Holding Woman In Renwick Home

A Nebraska man is being held in the Humboldt County jail on kidnapping charges. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office reports that at approximately 2:36 a.m. on Tuesday, they received notification that a young woman from Fremont, Neb. had contacted friends and family through social media and told them she was being held against her will. Deputies from Humboldt and Wright County were able to locate the woman at a residence in Renwick. She was transported to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital by Renwick Emergency Medical Services for treatment. Authorities then arrested 36-year-old Valentin Velez of La Vista, Neb. and charged him with third-degree kidnapping, a class C felony. If convicted, Velez could serve up to 10 years in prison. Also assisting with the investigation are the Humboldt County Attorney’s Office, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Department of Narcotic Enforcement.
