Many Different Awards Will Be Presented To Employees Of Diocesan Schools Sunday At Bishop’s Dinner

This coming Sunday, Oct. 21, will mark the 22nd anniversary of the Bishop’s Dinner for Catholic Schools in the Sioux City Diocese. The dinner is the single largest fundraiser for all 16 Catholic school systems in the diocese, including the Kuemper Catholic School System. During the dinner, several different awards will be distributed. The Excellence in Education awards will be presented to: Annette Vaske, a business teacher at Bishop Garrigan in Algona; Laurie Dougherty, an art and visual design instructor at Bishop Heelan in Sioux City; and instrumental music director at Gehlen Catholic Schools in Le Mars, Paul Neibuhr. Good Shepherd awards will also be presented to Sandi Prather, a kindergarten aide at Immaculate Conception Grade School in Sioux City and Jay Sassman, a custodian at St. Mary School in Storm Lake. The Good Shepherd Clergy award is going to Fr. Clem Currans, who served at Holy Family Church in Emmetsburg prior to his retirement in July. The Bishop’s Dinner will begin with a social hour at 4 p.m. and the dinner at 5 p.m. “One Groovy Nun,” Sister Miriam Heidland, will be the featured speaker.
