Manning Man Facing Multiple Burglary Charges Scheduled For Trial Later This Summer

The jury trial for a Manning man accused of forcing his way into a home and attacking a person inside is scheduled to begin later this summer. Thirty-five-year-old Anthony John Bruns is charged with first-degree burglary, a class B felony, second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony. The first-degree burglary charge stems from an incident on the morning of May 25. Bruns allegedly pushed his way into a home in the 300 block of 3rd Street in Manning and assaulted a male sleeping in the master bedroom. The remaining infractions occurred the following morning. Bruns kicked in the front door of the same home and caused approximately $5,000 in damage by destroying clothes, electronics and furniture. While still on the property, he smashed the rear passenger window of a vehicle parked at the residence. Bruns entered a not guilty plea to the charges, and a jury trial has been scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If found guilty, he could face up to 40 years in prison and $17,500 in fines. The prison term could be increased due to his status as a habitual offender. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Aug. 20 to determine if the case will be resolved before proceeding to trial.
