Man Falls Through Bar Ceiling While Trying To Hide From Authorities

A man attempting to hide from authorities fell through the ceiling of a Storm Lake bar. The Storm Lake Police Department reports they responded to an establishment on Lake Avenue at approximately 12:06 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 and met with witnesses who said that 27-year-old Jayme Espinosa Perez of Storm Lake had spotted officers in the business on an earlier bar check. He believed there was a warrant out for his arrest, so he went into the restroom and crawled into the ceiling to hide, only to fall through, landing on the floor and causing an estimated $400 in damage to the ceiling tile. Perez was located in the alley behind the bar and arrested. There were, however, no outstanding warrants for his arrest. Following an investigation, Espinosa Perez was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a serious misdemeanor, and third-offense public intoxication, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was booked into the Buena Vista County jail on a $3,000 bond.
