Communities will have the chance to receive a $10,000 award by simply signing up and walking or running through downtown Des Moines. The Grand Blue Mile Street Run will be taking place next Tuesday, April 24. The city with the highest number of participants based on their percentage of population will run home with the cash prize. Current leaders include Lohrville, who is sitting at number one per capita for the event. They are followed by Elkhart, Urbandale and Des Moines. All anyone needs to do to get involved is just register and participate and they can be a part of promoting safe and accessible places to be active, such as trails, parks or playgrounds in their hometown.
