Local Performers Bring Home Hardware From The 2019 Iowa State Dance And Drill Team Competition

The 2018-19 Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association competitions concluded last week, and several local schools and dancers brought home accolades. The team contest took place Nov. 29 and 30 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, and solo dancers competed at Newton High School at the beginning of November. The Kuemper Kix Dance Team claimed first place in Class I Lyrical, placed first in Class III Jazz and finished third in Class IV Hip Hop. Glidden-Ralston placed fifth in Class I Pom and 11th in Class I Hip Hop. Ar-We-Va tied for first place with Remsen St. Mary’s in Class I Jazz and placed ninth in Class I Pom. East Sac County finished in the top five in three different competitions: third in Class VII Pom, second in Small Show Production and fourth in Lights. Carroll High placed in the top ten in two categories, seventh in Class V Hip Hop and sixth in Class IV Jazz. Audubon placed 6th in the Lights contest. As for the solo competitions, Ar-We-Va’s Bridget Cameron placed fifth in Class I. Megan Volquartsen, Emily Bowden, Megan Langel and Lauren Macke, all from Kuemper, placed first, second, third and ninth in Class III. Two solo dancers from Carroll High School finished in the top twelve for Class IV: Marie Blue Boileau in ninth and Mia Nagl in 12th.
