Parents and caregivers of children with special healthcare needs that are from three to 19 years of age can get special assistance through the upcoming Iowa Family Leadership Training Institute 2018. In-person training sessions will be held on Sept. 7 and Sept. 8, Oct. 5 and Oct. 6, Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 and again on Dec. 1. Applications for the training, however, are due by Friday, July 13. The sessions are open to families living west of I-35 and will include assistance with understanding how to work with partners, becoming aware of one’s own path to leadership, discovering strategies for advocacy and preparing community service projects that have impact at the community or systems level. The training will help prepare the parents or primary caregivers to become better advocates on the individual, community and policy levels. Cost to attend is $100, but scholarship opportunities are available for the Division of Child and Community Health-sponsored classes, through the University of Iowa. More information and details on how to apply are included below.
