Last Month Was Iowa’s 10th Warmest And Wettest June On Record

According to a report released Thursday by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), last month was one of the rainiest and warmest on record. In June 2018, the state received an average of 7.53 inches of rainfall, about 2.53 inches over the 30-year average, making it the 10th wettest on record. Not all of Iowa saw higher than normal precipitation, though. According to DNR Hydrology Resource Coordinator, Tim Hall, “the pattern of a wetter northern Iowa and drier southern Iowa continues with portions of southeast Iowa now classified as severe drought.” He adds it will take several months of normal or above normal rainfall in that area for conditions to improve. Temperatures above the average were also common in June. The statewide average was 3.3 degrees above the normal at 73.3 degrees, making June the 10th warmest on record.
